The history of glazed ceramic began in orient. With the contacts to the Islamic world this production technique was transferred to Europe. At the Iberian Peninsula was specially made use of the composition of painted glazed tile and architecture. Mainly in Portugal the Azulejos have become a representative aspect of Portuguese culture which are cultivated and designed to this day. <P>Since the glaze of tiles is not as hard as of porcelain the colours are more altering while firing. This results in multiple repainting and firing to achieve the desired brilliancy.</P> <P>Long ago painted tiles have found their way into our region. They give almost every furnishing style a personal and tastefully character: simple borders and enclosures as well as complex unique artworks and entire wall compositions.</P>
